mothy (Akuno-P) – Evils Forest (2010)

Summary

Evils Forest is the second independently released album by VOCALOID producer mothy (Akuno-P) and follows the 2009 release of Evils Theater. Issued under the catalogue number AKNP-0003, it continues the expansion of the interconnected Evillious Chronicles, a long-running multimedia story told primarily through VOCALOID music.

The album contains eleven tracks, including several of the most influential songs in the series such as The Tailor of Enbizaka, The Madness of Duke Venomania, Moonlit Bear, Heartbeat Clocktower, and Daughter of White. These songs introduced or expanded major characters and events that would later be explored in novels, guidebooks, manga and subsequent albums. 

Compared with Evils Theater, this release demonstrates the rapid growth of the Evillious project. The production is more ambitious, featuring a wider variety of VOCALOID voicebanks including Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin & Len, KAITO, MEIKO, Megurine Luka, GUMI and Kamui Gakupo, reflecting the increasingly complex world mothy was building.

Release & Version Details

This first edition was released on 9 May 2010 at the independent VOCALOID event THE VOC@LOiD M@STER 12 (Voc@loid Master 12) before later becoming available through digital distribution. 

Unlike later commercial Evillious releases published by major labels, Evils Forest remained an independently produced CD carrying the AKNP catalogue prefix used for mothy’s early self-published works.

Why It’s Significant

Evils Forest marks a major milestone in the development of the Evillious Chronicles. Many of the songs introduced here became foundational to the series’ chronology and remain among mothy’s best-known works.

The album also illustrates the transition of the project from a successful independent music series into a broader multimedia franchise. Much of the lore explored in later novels and official publications can be traced back to stories first presented on this CD.

For collectors, it represents one of the earliest self-published physical releases from mothy before the Evillious Chronicles achieved wider commercial recognition.

Preservation Notes

• Original independent pressings are significantly less common than later commercial Evillious releases.
• Copies should be checked for the correct AKNP-0003 catalogue number.
• Complete examples should retain all original inserts and packaging.
• As with many independently distributed Japanese CDs of the period, packaging can show shelf wear despite the disc remaining in excellent condition.
• Unlike Evils Theater, copies with an original OBI are encountered less frequently, as not every pressing included one.
