Summary

Evils Theater is the first album released by Japanese VOCALOID producer mothy, also known as Akuno-P. Distributed on 17 May 2009 at THE VOC@LOiD M@STER 8, it collected eleven songs that had established the producer’s growing reputation within the VOCALOID community, including The Daughter of Evil, The Servant of Evil, Regret Message, and Evil Food Eater Conchita.

Although many of the included songs had previously been released online, Evils Theater was the first time they were compiled into a professionally pressed physical album. The release features vocals from several Crypton Future Media VOCALOIDs, including Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, Hatsune Miku, MEIKO and KAITO.

In hindsight, the album represents the starting point of the Evillious Chronicles, the interconnected multimedia series that would later expand into numerous albums, novels, guidebooks and other publications. While the overarching narrative had not yet been fully developed, many of its most recognisable stories originated here.

Release & Version Details

This release was published by the heavenly yard, mothy’s own doujin music circle, rather than a commercial record label. It carries catalogue number AKNP-0001, making it the first known release in the label’s catalogue.

The album was first distributed at THE VOC@LOiD M@STER 8, one of Japan’s largest dedicated VOCALOID fan events. It includes:

  • Professionally pressed CD
  • 16-page booklet
  • Illustrated artwork by Ichika
  • Standard jewel case with OBI on first retail copies

Later albums such as Prelude to Forest, Evils Forest and Evils Kingdom would significantly expand the Evillious storyline, making Evils Theater the historical beginning of the physical series.

Why It’s Significant

This release deserves preservation because it represents several important milestones:

  • The first physical album released by mothy (Akuno-P).
  • The debut release of the the heavenly yard circle.
  • The earliest physical compilation of several of the producer’s most influential VOCALOID songs.
  • The foundation upon which the Evillious Chronicles multimedia franchise was later built.
  • An important example of the late-2000s independent VOCALOID doujin music scene.

Unlike many later releases issued through commercial labels, Evils Theater reflects the period when successful VOCALOID producers were still distributing their work primarily through fan conventions and independent circles.

Preservation Notes

  • Complete copies should include the CD, booklet, jewel case and original OBI.
  • The OBI is commonly absent on second-hand copies and is an important identifier for collectors.
  • Early jewel cases often exhibit scratching or cracking due to age and storage.
  • As with many doujin CDs of the era, replacement components reduce the originality of surviving copies.
  • Catalogue number AKNP-0001 confirms this first release within the the heavenly yard catalogue.

Trivia & Interesting Facts

  • AKNP in the catalogue number references Aku no P (Akuno-P).
  • The album was distributed at THE VOC@LOiD M@STER 8 before mothy became one of the best-known narrative-focused VOCALOID producers.
  • Several songs on the album later became some of the most recognisable works in the entire Evillious Chronicles.
  • The album artwork features Kagamine Rin on the front cover, with Kagamine Len on the reverse.
  • Although later releases present a far more structured chronology, Evils Theater is widely regarded as the point where the Evillious project began taking shape as a cohesive universe rather than a collection of standalone songs.
