Summary
Dead Rising 2 was developed by Blue Castle Games in collaboration with Capcom and released in 2010. The game follows Chuck Greene during a zombie outbreak in the fictional casino resort of Fortune City.
The Zombrex SteelBook is particularly unusual in its presentation. Rather than conventional game artwork, its exterior mimics blister-pack medication, complete with dosage markings and Zombrex branding. The photographed Xbox 360 copy contains the game disc alongside a bonus DVD.
The SteelBook originally formed part of a larger Zombrex collector’s package, with additional items including an art book and various pieces of fictional pharmaceutical ephemera.
Why It’s Significant
Its packaging directly incorporates an important object from the game’s fictional world, making the SteelBook an example of collector’s packaging designed as an in-universe artefact rather than simply an alternative game case.
Preservation Notes
The exposed metallic finish is susceptible to scratching, scuffing and dents. Complete Zombrex Editions originally contained several separate components, meaning the SteelBook is also frequently encountered independently of the full collector’s package.
