Summary

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA was SEGA’s first rhythm game built around Crypton Future Media’s Hatsune Miku and the wider Vocaloid music scene. Originally released for PSP on 2 July 2009, it established the Project DIVA series and brought songs created within the Vocaloid community into a dedicated console rhythm game.

On 24 June 2010, SEGA reissued the game in two lower-priced forms: the standard Ohaidoku-han (“Bargain Edition”) and this larger Dekkai Ohaidoku-han (“Big Bargain Edition”). The latter was distinguished by its oversized illustrated outer box and bundled Nendoroid Petite Hatsune Miku figure.

The included figure is specifically the Nendoroid Petite “Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA” Bonus Ver. Reproduction Edition. It recreated the figure originally distributed as a pre-order bonus for the 2009 release, giving buyers of the 2010 edition another opportunity to obtain it.

Release & Version Details

The Dekkai Ohaidoku-han was released almost a year after the original PSP game and only around a month before Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA 2nd, which followed on 29 July 2010.

Unlike the ordinary 2010 Bargain Edition, which contained the game alone, the Big Bargain Edition used a substantially larger cardboard presentation box to accommodate the separately packaged figure. The outer packaging carries KEI’s familiar Hatsune Miku artwork and prominently identifies the release as the ¥3,900 Dekkai Ohaidoku-han.

Inside are the Japanese PSP release of Project DIVA and the boxed Nendoroid Petite figure. The figure packaging identifies it as a Project DIVA version and carries both SEGA and Good Smile Company branding.

Why It’s Significant

The Big Bargain Edition represents an interesting transitional point in Project DIVA history. By June 2010, the original game had established the series sufficiently for SEGA to introduce a budget reissue, while Project DIVA 2nd was already approaching release.

More importantly from a preservation perspective, this edition reconnects the game with one of the physical collectables associated with its original launch. Rather than simply repackaging the software at a lower price, SEGA reproduced the earlier Nendoroid Petite bonus and incorporated it into a dedicated retail package.

The result is one of the more visually distinctive physical editions of the first Project DIVA and an early example of the combination of Hatsune Miku games and character collectables that would become increasingly common as the franchise expanded.

Preservation Notes

Complete examples should retain the large illustrated outer box, PSP game and the separately boxed Nendoroid Petite figure. Because the outer packaging is considerably larger and less rigid than a standard PSP case, edge, corner and surface wear can become particularly noticeable with handling and storage.

The figure is also important when assessing completeness. Loose copies of the PSP game are easily separated from the special packaging, while the Nendoroid Petite can likewise survive independently of the set.

The reproduction figure should not be confused with an unrelated later Hatsune Miku Nendoroid Petite. Its original box specifically identifies it as the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Bonus Ver. reproduction.

Trivia & Interesting Facts

The original Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA was released on 2 July 2009; this edition followed on 24 June 2010.
SEGA released both the ordinary Bargain Edition and the Big Bargain Edition on the same day.
The standard Bargain Edition was priced at ¥3,300 before tax, while the figure-equipped Big Bargain Edition was ¥3,900.
