Summary
Detroit: Become Human is a narrative adventure developed by Quantic Dream and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Set in Detroit in 2038, it follows three android protagonists — Connor, Kara and Markus — whose interconnected stories change according to the player’s decisions.
Released alongside the standard Japanese edition, the Premium Edition was produced in limited quantities and presented the game with a collection of physical and digital extras. Its most notable component is THE ESSENTIAL Detroit: Become Human, a Japanese-exclusive art and production book containing concept artwork, design material and interviews relating to the development of the game.
The edition also includes CyberLife-themed stickers and distinctive layered packaging designed around the visual identity of the fictional android manufacturer.

The Japanese Premium Edition was released on 25 May 2018 with a recommended retail price of ¥8,900 before tax.

The art book contains more than 100 pieces of artwork and production material across approximately 100 pages. Importantly, it was created specifically for the Japanese Premium Edition and differs from the digital art book supplied with the Digital Deluxe Edition outside Japan.
The physical presentation uses several layers, including the minimalist white outer box, translucent printed sleeve and blue inner game slipcase. The Japanese OBI-style wraparound strip identifies the package as the Premium Edition.
Why It’s Significant
This edition is particularly interesting as an example of Sony producing region-specific collector material rather than simply localising an international collector’s edition.
THE ESSENTIAL Detroit: Become Human is the defining component: it was specially edited for Japan and was not simply a printed version of the internationally available digital art book. This gives the Japanese Premium Edition its own identity within the game’s physical release history.
The CyberLife-inspired packaging and printed materials also closely reproduce the clean corporate design language used throughout the game, making the complete package representative of Detroit: Become Human’s distinctive visual direction.
Preservation Notes
Complete examples should retain the outer presentation box, translucent sleeve, blue game packaging, Japanese Premium Edition OBI, THE ESSENTIAL art book and CyberLife sticker sheet.
The stickers are consumable components and therefore may be used or absent from second-hand copies. Digital soundtrack and PS4 theme codes should also be regarded separately from the surviving physical contents, as codes may have been redeemed or expired.
The translucent outer material and pale presentation box are particularly susceptible to scratching, rubbing, discolouration and storage marks.
Trivia & Interesting Facts
The Premium Edition was officially described as a limited-production release in Japan.
The physical THE ESSENTIAL Detroit: Become Human book was exclusive to this edition and contains material differing from the overseas digital art book.
The edition’s CyberLife stickers imitate promotional and corporate graphics from the fictional company responsible for manufacturing androids within the game.
Although sometimes described by sellers as a roughly 90-page book, Sony’s contemporary material described THE ESSENTIAL as an approximately 100-page publication containing more than 100 pieces of artwork, graphics and production material.
