Summary

Crimson Desert is an open-world action-adventure game developed and published by South Korean studio Pearl Abyss. Set on the continent of Pywel, the game follows Kliff, leader of the Greymanes, against a backdrop of warfare, political conflict and supernatural events.

The Physical Deluxe Edition was released alongside the standard version and positioned between the regular physical release and the substantially larger Collector’s Edition. Unlike the digital Deluxe Edition, it contains a dedicated selection of physical collectibles alongside the game and its Deluxe Pack digital content.

Pearl Abyss specifically described the Physical Deluxe Edition as a limited-release package, stating that it would no longer be available once its allocated stock had sold out.

Release & Version Details

The Physical Deluxe Edition contains:

  • Crimson Desert PS5 game disc
  • Deluxe Edition Limited SteelBook
  • Map of Pywel
  • Letter from the Developer
  • Greymane brooch pin
  • Three character photo cards
  • Three embroidered patches

The game disc is housed directly inside the Deluxe Edition SteelBook rather than being supplied in a separate standard PS5 case.

Digital Deluxe Pack content comprises the Kairos Plate Set, Balgran Shield and Exclaire Horse Tack Set. The PlayStation 5 edition additionally includes the platform-specific Grotevant Plate Set. Pre-order copies were also eligible for the Khaled Shield bonus.

The packaging itself notes that an internet connection and content download are required, an important distinction when considering the long-term preservation of the edition: although the principal game is supplied on physical media, some of its advertised content is digital.

Pearl Abyss also warned that package contents could vary by region. The copy documented here is the European PEGI 18 PS5 release, identifiable by the PEGI branding visible on the outer box.

Why It’s Significant

The Deluxe Edition represents the middle tier of Crimson Desert‘s physical launch releases. It preserves considerably more material than the standard edition without incorporating the large 17-inch diorama that defines the Collector’s Edition.

Its significance is particularly tied to its physical contents. The SteelBook, Pywel map, developer letter, character cards, Greymane pin and patches were specifically designated as Physical Deluxe Edition goods and are absent from the digital Deluxe Edition.

The edition is also noteworthy as a deliberately limited physical release from Pearl Abyss. Unlike a conventional deluxe package that could potentially remain in production alongside the standard game, Pearl Abyss explicitly stated that this version would cease to be available once sold out.

Preservation Notes

Completeness is particularly important with this release because much of its identity comes from numerous small physical components. A complete example should retain the outer presentation box, SteelBook and game disc, Pywel map, developer letter and envelope, Greymane brooch pin, all three character photo cards and all three patches.

The smaller cards, patches and brooch are particularly easy to separate from the main package over time. The outer cardboard presentation packaging should also be protected from crushing, edge wear and surface abrasion.

Future collectors should distinguish the Physical Deluxe Edition from the digital Deluxe Edition and from the more elaborate physical Collector’s Edition. The latter shares several items but substitutes a fabric map for the Deluxe Edition’s map and adds a large Kliff and Golden Star diorama alongside further digital content.

Preservation of the original inserts and any unused digital-content documentation is worthwhile even where codes have expired or been redeemed, as these materials document how the complete edition was originally distributed.

Trivia & Interesting Facts

The Deluxe Edition’s Greymane theme extends beyond the SteelBook and packaging: its included brooch represents the mercenary group led by protagonist Kliff.

The Physical Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition share the developer letter, brooch, three character cards and three patches, but use different versions of the Pywel map. The Collector’s Edition specifically includes a fabric map

The PS5 version received the Grotevant Plate Set as platform-exclusive bonus content, while the Deluxe Pack itself was also made available separately after release. The game launched worldwide on 19 March 2026, more than five years after Crimson Desert was first publicly shown in substantial form at The Game Awards 2020.
