Joshua’s feature: G-SHOCK Frogman GW-200Z and DW-8201WC (2009 & 1998)

Taking a dive into the wide selection of G-SHOCK models, it’s easy to see why the Frogman is such a treasure. The timeless design, impressive durability and sheer practicality really make this watch model shine.

The Frogman was developed by Casio as a Diver’s watch. Debuting in 1993 as part of the Master of G series, engineers wanted to create unbreakable watches designed to withstand the harshest environments. The Frogman is a sea specialist. The classic G-SHOCK Shock Resist combined with an impressive ISO-certified 200 metre water resistance and asymmetric case; designed to be worn over diver’s wetsuits; emphasises G-SHOCKs expertise in delivering practical pieces without compromising on style.

These two specific models are particular favourites of ours and represent two very different eras of this iconic model.

The DW-8201WC (1998) is a 2nd Generation Frogman released exclusively in Japan as a collaboration with the World Coral Reef Conservation Society (WCCS). Only a limited number were ever released, making this an extremely rare acquisition.

This stunning watch features a translucent resin case and a titanium bezel. The packaging has been crafted with 100% sustainable materials. This WCCS collaboration is symbolic of Casio’s commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable manufacturing.

This model has plenty of fun features. If you look closely you can spot a crab on the end of the wrist strap, coral laser printed on the case back and the ocean blue backlight reveals the silhouette of a ray.

The DW-8201WC (2009) is the last model of the 3rd Generation solar Frogman line. This beautiful watch was released as a final send-off for the GW-200 era before moving on to the more modern GWF-1000 platform.

This model incorporates solar charging, a dive timer with data memory and multiband radio time sync inside a design reminiscent of the original 1993 Frogman. Every feature of this watch feels intentional, from the contrasting pops of colour in the text to the laser engraved diving frog on the case back.

The standout hallmark of the Frogman is that it looks just as good off the beach. Across the generations it has cemented its cult status as a diving necessity as well as a fashion accessory. It’s no wonder that this model is a collector’s dream.
